Favorite Purchases – 2018 Edition

Favorite Purchases – 2018 Edition

Here it is, my second favorites post for this year… Today I’m going to share some of my favorite purchases from 2018!

(I was not asked to share any of these products with you, they are just things that I use and love. The Amazon links and the iHerb link are affiliate links, however, so if you decide to make a purchase for yourself, maybe show me some love and use that link 🙂 ).

I also have another post that shares some of my favorite blogs, social media accounts, and podcasts from 2018 as well…if you’re interested in hearing about some more things I’ve liked this year!

So without further ado…some of my favorite personal care products from this year:

Acure Shampoo and Conditioner
I have been loving Acure’s Argan Oil and Pumpkin Shampoo and Conditioner. I originally heard about them through an Instagram post recommendation from Bella at www.bellagracewellness.com. I love the purity of ingredients, the lack of SLS and parabens, and the wonderful, faint pumpkin scent. This product absolutely nourishes and conditions my hair. I personally grab it at a local TJ Maxx or Marshalls, as they typically have the best deal on price, however Amazon has the shampoo alone or as a set with the conditioner if you prefer to get them that way!

Giovanni 2chic Flat Iron Styling Mist
Love! This flat iron mist is my absolute favorite. It goes on easy, doesn’t weigh my hair down at all (even when I lightly spray it on before refreshing second day hair!), and keeps my hair well protected from heat. To make things even better, no nasty chemicals I don’t want on my hair. Total win right here, folks. I can sometimes find this one at TJ Maxx or Marshalls as well for a lower price, but you can also find it here on Amazon!

Sky Organics Tinted Lip Balm
So. Good. Here’s the thing. I love the look of lipstick. I don’t love the chemicals in most lipsticks or the price tag on the ones that are fairly “clean”. (I firmly believe that health and beauty products are worth a higher price for quality, but since lip color isn’t really a “need” I often can’t justify adding that to my beauty routine…) This was a random find and I couldn’t be more thrilled with it. Now, it doesn’t stay on for hours or when you eat/drink, so if that’s important to you this won’t hold up to your expectations. For what I was looking for (really clean product, gluten free, provides lip protection as well as color) this is well worth needing to re-apply once in awhile. The colors that come in this 4 pack on Amazon are very pretty and range from a light shimmer to a nice dark “raisin”. LOVE.

There are a lot of other health and beauty products that I love and use, but if I had to pick a few of my favorite discoveries from this year, those would be my top picks. If you have any questions about other products that I use (no, I don’t sell anything!) feel free to ask!

Moving on to some of my favorite book picks from this year:

God is Good, by Bill Johnson
This book has been so, so instrumental in helping heal misconceptions in my understanding of who God is. Bill Johnson’s writing is clear, based in Scripture, and carries a fatherly, encouraging tone while speaking truth and wisdom. I started reading this book early this year, prior to our miscarriage, and returned to it as part of my processing after…I’m very glad I had it on the shelf. Check it out here.

Switch on Your Brain, by Dr. Caroline Leaf
I found Caroline Leaf’s work, and this book, on a recommendation from a friend. I have taken a few months to work through this book and the accompanying workbook, and have recently finished working through the 21 day process described. The information provided on the brain and how God designed within each one of us the ability to  “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2) is incredible. Dr. Leaf marries Scripture with science in a way I’ve never seen done. If you ever struggle with your thoughts/fears/anxieties, it is so worth it to check this book out. If you want to know a little more before you invest in the book (I did!), Dr. Leaf’s talks can be found on YouTube or you can learn more on her website. This book can be found here.

The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell
I absolutely devoured this book. It is extremely informational, but I didn’t find it difficult to follow or hard to understand. I really appreciate research, and enjoy having resources that can point me to other sources I can look into myself. This book provides all of that. If you are interested in learning about the research done about, and scientific basis for, a whole foods, plant based diet, absolutely read this book. It is so comprehensive. Check it out through Amazon here.

I have also read and loved several fabulous books this year about pregnancy, childbirth, and infant loss – I’ll discuss those in a different post, coming soon.

Next on the list – my favorite household items from this year:

Vitamix, Certified Refurbished
Oh, friends. This is the stuff of dreams come true right here. I didn’t expect to make this long-desired purchase anytime in the near future, but there was an amazing deal on their site a few months back that Jon and I agreed we couldn’t pass up. We ended up getting a certified refurbished 8 cup model for half the normal price, and I truly couldn’t be more pleased. This one appliance can do just about anything you want it to do in the blending/food processing/dough making/hot soup creating world. It’s fabulous. This is the model we purchased (though not currently being offered with the deal we got), keep your eye on it for another fantastic sale if you are interested!

iAsethete Organic Pure Cotton Nut Milk Bag
A friend surprised me with this in the mail one day over the summer following a conversation about making our own nut milk. Goodness do I love this thing and it gets so much use at my house! It is super easy to use and to keep clean, and allows me to easily make delicious almond (and other types!) milk for us. I love making our own because it is less expensive and there are no added ingredients – total win.

Sadly, Amazon does not have this exact one available right now 🙁 . However, this one or this one, seem to be very similar!

PandaEar Divided Silicone Toddler Plates
These are awesome! They work great for the daycare kiddos, clean well, and don’t take up a lot of space when there are three kids at the table – woohoo! I have silicone placemat plates I did love when the kids were younger. These plates are nice because they provide the same non-slip benefit but don’t take up as much space. This is a simple one friends, but definitely a favorite find of mine from this year. Take a look here!

Nellie’s All Natural Laundry Soda
I have long been on the search for a really clean laundry detergent (I know, I could make my own…that’s a conversation for another day!). I came across this one on recommendation from Sarah at https://www.sarahlemkus.com/ and have been so pleased with it. It cleans our clothes very well, is gentle, and is highly concentrated so it lasts a long time. It is completely scent free which allows me to just add a few drops of my own essential oil choices to give our clothes that “fresh and clean” smell I love.

I purchase this laundry soap through iHerb, a website that offers an amazing range of health related products at really great prices. It’s free to create an account, and if you do you receive ‘loyalty credit’ and ‘rewards credit’ toward future purchases. I’ve loved using them for a variety of products. Visit their site here!

Well friends, I could definitely add more things to this list but in the interest of trying to keep it to just a few favorites from this year, there you have it.

If you have any other types of products you would be interested in hearing about, or if you have questions about the products I’ve mentioned in this post, comment below or send a message! I love to chat with you!
